Being On-time and Prepared

August 31st, 2008 by admin

The IT Industry places great emphasis on the habits of being on time and prepared. This can be demonstrated in virtually any context, which involves the time factor, for example, attending meetings. In the present times, when the value of time is perhaps appreciated more than ever before, being on time and and delivering results on schedule, every time, assumes greater significance. In this context, planning and scheduling skills are important. You must be realistic in planning for activities, prioritizing and scheduling them and also set aside some buffer time for meeting any contingencies. For example, if you have to deliver part of a project at the end of the day, you must identify the activities to be completed, say making calls to clients, testing your application for errors and generating reports, prioritize these in terms of importance and allocate time for each. Remember Do First Things First.

Apart from the fact that you that you must be on time for any meetings or commitments, you must also be prepared for the occasion. For example, you may have to do your homework, compile data, or go through related materials, before attending a meeting, so that the time spent is most fruitful an utilized.

The following checklist would help you go prepared for meetings:

- Go through the agenda
- Confirm the venue, room, etc.
- Know the chairperson
- Familiarize yourself with the topic
- Compile all the papers to take to take along
- Complete any preparatory work required
- Prepare for any presentations
- Organize copies of presentation for distribution
- Have all the stationary ready (papers, pen, calculators, etc.)

Tracking Urgent vs. Important

Often you might be in a situation to decide on which tasks to accomplish first. Examples of urgent tasks could be, say, catching a bus, pacifying a client, putting out a fire, while important tasks would be, say, learning to drive, looking into customer’s problems, or making a place fire-proof. The important but not urgent things involve planing, diagnosing, training, delegating and investing. Therefore they often take a large amount of time and the results may not be shown immediately.

Organized Workplace

August 30th, 2008 by admin

One of the most common factor contributing to building your image and impression on others, is invariably the sight of your workplace. It is perhaps the first thing that would strike any person interacting with you at your workplace. General neatness and an organizes workplace goes a long way in reflecting your personal effectiveness.

While you may have different kinds of workplaces, most can be effectively organized and made functional. Some may have a state of the art modular workstation, while others may just have a table and chair to work on. Whatever be the situation, you can always customize it. The objective is to have a workspace which is functional, convenient and which would provide small but important things within your reach when you need it and also have the frequently used items in place.

The following are some guidelines to create an organized workspace:

- Divide your soft board (if you have one) into functional areas for pinning up, say, project related charts, schedulers like planners, calendars, phone list, etc. and some space for putting up pictures, messages, etc.

- Remove unwanted pin-ups, old messages, etc. periodically

- Have a “Mail Bag” or “While i am out” boxes or envelopes pinned on the soft boxes or envelops pinned on the soft board for mails, messages etc. to be put in while you are away

- Have a “Today’s Schedule” pinned up and mention the place and phone number where you could be contacted during the day, in case you are out meeting clients

- Reserve one of the table drawers or a corner spaces for keeping items like stapler, pins, punching machine, scale, pencil, eraser, visiting cards, stick-on pad, etc.

- If a stapler is kept for use by a group of people at a common place, say, next to a printer, fasten it to a string to avoid it being misplaced

- Keep a bunch of unused printouts or recycled papers for taking down messages, scribbling, etc.

Business Travel Doing It Right

August 29th, 2008 by admin

Business travlers

The internet while making the world smaller has increased the size of most company’s customer base and as a consequence many business people have to travel more widely.

This is putting an increasing strain on business travelers who often become stressed and fatigued at the constant need to be in another part of the world. Seasoned travelers may already be aware of the business travel tips below but if you are a new member of the business travelers club then you may find the information very useful.

Sometimes for instance, baggage goes missing; that is an unfortunate fact of travel and while it is distressing enough on a family holiday, on a business trip it can be disastrous. To reduce the chance of a wasted journey, always carry anything that is relevant to your trip in your hand luggage.

Although it means taking more on the plane it does mean that whatever might happen you will be prepared for your meeting. When you do pack the main luggage, the clothes you won’t be carrying on as hand luggage, make sure to pack only what you need for this trip.

The easiest way to do this is to only take one pair of casual shoes and work pair; keep your work clothes to exactly what you need for the tip and likewise clothes for when you are on your leisure time. With the clothing taken care of the only items left to pack are your toilet bag plus any additional documentation that would be useful but not necessary for the meeting.

To make further space and allow you to pack a smaller bag, roll your clothing into tight cylinders, this allows you to pack things tightly and will help you to avoid wrinkles; remember this useful business travel tip. To go one step further, if you want to ensure that even if food or drink are spilled on your clothes you won’t need them laundered; use dark colors which are also handy because creases don’t show as much.

Another little trick that experienced travelers use is to carry hand and face wipes with them which can freshen your appearance in seconds without the need of a washroom. If you are only away for a couple of days make sure your cell phone and any other electronic equipment are fully charged so you can continue working at your convenience.

If you make effective use of your day time downtime while you are traveling, then you may be able to spend evenings exploring the areas once when you arrive at your business trip destination. These tips make sure that no matter what happens when you travel on business you will be able to continue with your plans and will not be left wondering what to do next.

Business travel does not have to be all work and by using the business travel tips shown here, there should be time for rest and relaxation too.

FINDING YOUR FORMAT:

August 25th, 2008 by admin

Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 /* Style Definitions */ table.MsoNormalTable {mso-style-name:”Table Normal”; mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0; mso-tstyle-colband-size:0; mso-style-noshow:yes; mso-style-priority:99; mso-style-qformat:yes; mso-style-parent:”"; mso-padding-alt:0in 5.4pt 0in 5.4pt; mso-para-margin:0in; mso-para-margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:11.0pt; font-family:”Calibri”,”sans-serif”; mso-ascii-font-family:Calibri; mso-ascii-theme-font:minor-latin; mso-fareast-font-family:”Times New Roman”; mso-fareast-theme-font:minor-fareast; mso-hansi-font-family:Calibri; mso-hansi-theme-font:minor-latin; mso-bidi-font-family:”Times New Roman”; mso-bidi-theme-font:minor-bidi;}

It’s very difficult to choose a camera without knowing which format best fits your needs. Below, you’ll find many of the most popular formats. DVCPRO HD Based on the standard definition of DVCPRO format, the DVCPRO HD from Panasonic uses a data rate of 120 MBps and intraframe compression, both of which will provide strong protection from generational loss. The DVCPRO HD also has supporting cameras and decks that use FireWire I/O, which is a very important feature for keeping an eye on your bottom line. The cost of the equipment is a bit pricey, as it can cost upwards of 80,000$. HDCAM The HDCAM format from Sony is based on DigiBeta and can record in 24p, 25p, 50i, and even 60i. It uses a high data rate of 140MBps, which produces a great looking picture with few glitches. Because of the very unusual 17:6:6 color sampling scheme, the color detail is half of DVCPRO HD. The picture is top of the line, proving to be among the best available on the market. HDV There is quite a bit of buzz surrounding HDV as the newcomer to the high definition marketplace. With high compression rates, HDV has enabled high quality shooting and editing with low cost tools, including the convenience of high definition video to Mini DV tape. This has also helped to open up the HD field to a wide variety of videographers and producers who would never have even considered going high definition otherwise. The biggest drawback to going the HDV route is also the greatest strength - high compression. Both audio and video can suffer dramatically from too much compression. The audio in theory isn’t up to CD quality, although some users report that they are perfectly happy with it. PDAaccessories.com is specialized in the following camera brands, Canon Camera Accessories, Nikon Camera Accessories, Sony Camera Accessories, JVC Camera Accessories, Gateway Camera Accessories etc. Have a look at PDAaccessories.com has different categories for digital camera accessories like Camera Chargers, Camera Cases, Camera Batteries, and Camera Mounts.

If allowed place a link back to your blog or web page but always check the rules of the forum first to make sure that you can do this

Comment on other peoples blogs

You can make genuine nice comments on other people’s blogs and add a link back to your own site.

Submit to directories

Submitting your site to directories is a tedious and time consuming job. There are so many directories where you can submit your site that it would take you forever to submit to them all.  Therefore look at the directories that are established and with good page rank and good traffic. Established high page rank directories, are well respected by Google, so getting your site listed there will get your site more Google respect, and higher listings within Google search results.  And don’t forget that when submitting pick the most appropriate category for your site.

Write a Press Release

The key thing with PR is coming up with a newsworthy angle. Spend twice as much time on the angle as on writing. You can Google free advice about how and what to write. This would have to be one of the most low cost and effective methods to receive publicity for you site. Having your story published is like a free endorsement of you, your website and your product.  Use a free news distribution service to promote it.
