Medical Record Jobs

October 30th, 2009 by admin

Ever since I can remember I have been interested in the medical field in general. After high school I found myself accepted to Pharmacy School but found after time that I had difficulty with biological sciences. I did not graduate. As time went on I found myself working in different industries before I eventually married and then became a Mom. While in Pharmacy College I found medical terminology to be interesting. I also have an infinity for working with computers. With both of these in mind, I turned my interest to Medical Transcription. With the economy the way it is and unsure futures for our lives, I feel that Medical Transcription is the way to go. I feel there are several advantages for me personally working in the medical transcription industry. First, I am a self starter and work well on my own. Everything that I have learned about the MT industry indicates that being a self starter is important. Second, I have two children ages 10 and 4 years of age. While they are both in school, my younger child goes for a short time five days a week. I need flexibility to both work from home in smaller increments of time such as 2 to 3 hour segments, in order to be able to tend to the needs of my children. Third, I need to make enough of an income to supplement our household income. In my research of medical record jobs, I have found the medical transcription industry is one of the best well paying jobs for those who want to work from home. Fourth, I would have the encouragement and support of my family. It was my Mom who first suggested medical transcription several years ago. While it was not advantageous for me to pursue this field until recently, knowing that my Mom wants this for me is an added bonus. Fifth, I am a very detailed oriented person and very accurate. In the field of medical transcription, whether or not a transcriptionist is accurate can be the difference between life and death. A specific allergy to a medication that is spelled incorrectly can cause healthcare errors which can have fatal consequences. That specific understanding has to be a guiding motivator for the transcriptionist to be accurate. Finally, working in the medical transcription industry provides job security. I have a very close family member who is directly involved in the medical area as the top management person at a hospital in my area. When I told him that I was considering jobs in medical transcription recently, I asked very poignant and direct questions in terms of the medical transcription industry and whether there was still a need and would always be a need for medical transcriptionists, his answer was an absolute yes. I trust the judgment of this person because of who he is to me, the fact that he has been in a position to know and has been a part of the medical industry for over 20 years.
